Roger York, Chanticleers Chorus, Director

Mr. York, is a native Missourian and graduate from Truman State University and Missouri school of Law. While an undergraduate, he studied under two voice coaches, Dr. Harold Hobson, and Dr. Clay Dawson. York was soloist, Assistant Director and member of the “NEMO Singers” (An audition only chorus). While in school, York also directed an a cappella double quartet, that sang all over the North half of Missouri. York and his wife Sandi retired, and moved to the Village in 1999. Roger became a member of the Chanticleers, and an auditioned member and soloist with the Village Chorale.  York’s vision, philosophy and commitment to the chorus is as follows : First, it should be fun as we steadily improve our musical accomplishments. Next we should support and encourage each other in learning the beauty of our barbershop style. Third, experience the joy of performing before a live audience and their applause for a song well sung. “As director, my duty and commitment to the chorus is to bring the best in directing skills thru continuing research and study of Barbershop theory, style and educating chorus members in the barbershop craft.  I respect and appreciate everyone of you. This is your chorus, and we are going to have fun singing. Thats what it's all about."”
